BOTOX®

Did you know that your trusted McLean dentist offers BOTOX® treatments at our dental office?

In addition to its cosmetic benefits, BOTOX can help treat some of the painful symptoms of temporomandibular disorder (TMD), such as headaches and tooth grinding (bruxism).

What Is BOTOX?

BOTOX® is a purified form of botulinum toxin that works by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, gently relaxing them to smooth away fine lines, wrinkles, and crow's feet, revealing a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

BOTOX® is administered through a series of precise injections into the targeted muscles. Its effects typically last three to four months, after which a follow-up treatment can help you maintain your results.

Our dentists deliver comfortable BOTOX injections at McLean Dental Loft. The procedure is quick and efficient, and there typically isn’t much downtime. Most patients return to work or continue their normal day afterward.

Why Choose Your Dentist for BOTOX Treatments?

Your dentist is actually the perfect provider to deliver BOTOX injections because of their extensive anatomy training in dental school. Here are some key advantages of working with your dentist for BOTOX treatment.
Knowledge of Anatomy
Your dentist is an expert in facial anatomy and musculature because of the training they received in dental school.
Ease of Care
You can combine BOTOX treatments with your regular dental checkups or other treatments for your ease and convenience.
Therapeutic Treatments
Your dentist understands which muscles to target to alleviate headaches and TMJ dysfunction.
Comfortable Injections
Your dentist administers dental anesthetics via injections as part of their routine training and practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

One of the benefits of BOTOX® is that it requires little to no downtime, making it a convenient option for patients with busy schedules. Most patients can return to their normal daily activities immediately after their appointment.

What to Expect After BOTOX at McLean Dental Loft

In the hours following treatment, you may notice mild redness, slight swelling, or minor bruising at the injection sites. These effects are temporary and typically resolve within 24 to 48 hours. Some patients experience mild tenderness or a headache shortly after their procedure, which is also normal and short-lived.

To support a smooth recovery, we recommend the following for the first 24 hours after your treatment:

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas, as this can cause the BOTOX® to migrate to unintended muscles.
  • Stay upright for at least four hours after your appointment, and avoid lying down flat.
  • Steer clear of strenuous exercise, excessive heat (such as saunas or hot tubs), and alcohol, as these can increase the risk of bruising or swelling.
  • Refrain from facial treatments such as facials or massages in the treated area for at least 24 hours.

Results from BOTOX typically begin to appear within three to five days, with full effects visible within one to two weeks. If you have any concerns during your recovery, our team at McLean Dental Loft is always here to help. Don't hesitate to call us at (703) 775-4949.

BOTOX for Cosmetic Dentistry

Many patients rely on BOTOX to smooth fine lines around the eyes, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. It can also help with "gummy smile" correction by relaxing the muscles around your lip so it falls comfortably over your teeth, eliminating the appearance of excess gum tissue.

BOTOX treatment can be an excellent addition to your cosmetic dental procedures, enhancing your smile transformation.

BOTOX for TMD Symptoms

TMD occurs when your jaw joint (TMJ) isn’t functioning properly. Many patients experience debilitating symptoms from TMD, such as:

  • Tooth clenching and grinding
  • Jaw joints clicking or popping
  • Frequent headaches or migraines
  • Jaw joints locking open or closed
  • Pain, tenderness, or difficulties with biting or chewing
  • Neck and shoulder pain

Dentists often recommend BOTOX to relax the muscles that contribute to these symptoms, helping patients find relief. BOTOX is especially effective for patients dealing with bruxism or frequent migraines, and our dentists can recommend a treatment schedule to help you manage your symptoms.
