CEREC Same-Day Restorations

At McLean Dental Loft, we’re excited to bring our patients innovative CEREC same-day technology as part of our concierge care experience. If you’ve had a crown in the past, you know that it typically required two appointments with your dentist and two to three weeks to finish. You would also have to endure wearing a temporary restoration that might break or fall off.

Gone are those days with CEREC!

Same-Day Restorations at McLean Dental Loft

With CEREC technology, our dentists can design, fabricate, and permanently place high-quality porcelain restorations in a single appointment, typically lasting around 60 to 90 minutes. No more waiting for weeks to restore your smile.

These are some of the restorations we make with CEREC:

  • Inlays — A custom-made porcelain restoration that lies between the cusps of a tooth, which is ideal for small to medium areas of tooth decay.
  • Onlays — A custom restoration that restores a tooth with more damage, but that doesn’t need a crown. This restoration covers the chewing surface of the tooth and extends over the edges for more extended coverage, like a “partial crown.”
  • Crowns — A full coverage restoration for a tooth that is decayed, damaged, fractured, or compromised beyond what a filling, inlay, or onlay can repair.
  • Bridges — A bridge replaces one or more adjacent missing teeth. It covers two healthy teeth on either end with crowns that support prosthetic teeth in between.

The Benefits of Same-Day Restorations

CEREC technology provides several advantages that our patients love.
No Temporaries
With same-day restorations, you skip wearing a temporary version that could sometimes become problematic.
Excellent Quality
CEREC offers exceptional porcelain restorations that provide the durability you need and the aesthetics you want.
Same-Day Service
With CEREC technology, there’s no more waiting weeks for a dental lab to complete your restorations.
No Impressions
CEREC uses 3-D imaging instead of uncomfortable alginate impressions to capture precise images of your tooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

A dental crown is a custom-designed "cap" that fits over a weakened, decayed, or damaged tooth, restoring both its aesthetics and function. At McLean Dental Loft, we recommend crowns when a tooth needs more coverage and support than an inlay or a filling can provide. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • A tooth is cracked, decayed, or fractured — A crown holds the tooth together and prevents the crack from spreading, protecting it from further damage.
  • Significant decay — When decay is too extensive for a filling to restore the tooth adequately, a crown provides full coverage and lasting protection.
  • A tooth has been treated with a root canal — Root canal-treated teeth can become brittle over time, and a crown keeps them strong and functional.
  • A filling has failed or is too large — When an old filling breaks down or takes up too much of the tooth structure, a crown is often the more durable, reliable solution.
  • A tooth has excessive wear — Grinding (bruxism) or erosion from acid can wear teeth to the point where a crown is needed to rebuild proper shape and bite.

Same-Day Crowns in McLean, VA

The good news? At McLean Dental Loft, there is no waiting weeks for your crown. With our CEREC technology, we design, fabricate, place, and adjust your custom crown in a single visit. There are no temporaries, no additional appointments, no hassle.

If you think you might need a crown, we're happy to take a look and walk you through your options.

How Does CEREC Work?

CEREC, which stands for “chairside economic restoration of esthetic ceramics,” uses 3-D imaging to capture an “impression” of your tooth, so we no longer need the messy, uncomfortable alginate impressions we used in the past.

Our dentists use this image to design your restoration, and then they send their exact specifications directly to our milling machine. The milling machine uses high-quality ceramic porcelain to fabricate your crown, bridge, inlay, or onlay while you wait.

Finally, our dentists will fit your completed restoration onto your tooth with precision, permanently place it, and make any necessary adjustments to stabilize your bite.
